Putin to visit Poland?

30.01.2009

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin talking to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Davos on Thursday declared his willingness to visit Poland as soon as possible to discuss Polish- Russian relations and investments, the head of the Polish Prime Minister Cabinet Slawomir Nowak told Polish Radio this morning.

The visit may take place even before the summer holidays.

According to Nowak, both prime ministers want the meeting to be well thought-out in terms of its merits in order to avoid making it only an official visit.

Nowak emphasized that Tusk brought some important questions to the table, such as the issue concerning the recent cuts in gas supplies and the controversial Katyn massacre of 1940, when thousands of Polish military officers, intellectuals and civil prisoners were allegedly murdered by the Soviet secret police (NKVD).

Putin also, according to Nowak, agreed with Tusk that it was crucial to intensify the activity of the Polish-Russian commission established to discuss difficult questions.

Among others issues discussed by Tusk and Putin in Davos, there was the case of the antimissile shield, which is to be installed in Poland. (is)
