More negligence in Olewnik murder case

01.02.2009

The trail of negligence in the Krzysztof Olewnik murder case grows longer after it is revealed that police let sewage drip on to vital evidence.

Sewage destroyed 230 pieces of evidence in the case of the murder of the wealthy businessman's son Krzysztof Olewnik after a pipe leak, last June, at a police station in Olsztyn, north eastern Poland.

Among the damaged evidence were fingerprint records, photos and a hair found at the spot of the murder of the 25 year-old son of a wealthy businessman.

One of the investigators claims that the majority of the materials were already examined before the accident though some were never checked.

Wlodzimierz Olewnik, the father of the victim calls for a special commission should be formed to investigate the circumstances of his son's death.

The trail of negligence in the investigation into the kidnap, torture and murder of his son included three suicides in prison of those involved in the murder. Zbigniew Cwiakalski resigned as justice minister after the last of the suicides last week. (pg/is)
