Corrupt doctors help out criminals

05.02.2009

Two doctors from the hospital of the Medical Academy in Bialystok, north eastern Poland, have been detained by officials from the Central Investigation Bureau on a charge of corruption.

The police have also detained another man who was involved in the affair as a ‘middle man’ between the doctors and criminals.

The doctors are suspected of issuing false certificates for criminals and forging medical documentation, thus enabling the culprits’ sentence to be shortened.

All the suspects have been transferred to Ostroleka, north eastern Poland.

According to the police, the case is ‘developing.’

For certifying false documents, the men could face up to eight years in prison. (is)
