Three climbers, lost overnight in the Tatra mountains, were successfully rescued today by the Polish Tatra Rescuers (TOPR), amidst severe weather and high-risk of avalanche.
The hikers got lost at night in the Malolaczniaka region of the mountain range, on the Polish-Slovenian border. When the group realized that they had lost their trail, they contacted TOPR, but were unable to give their exact location. At 1:20 am, TOPR sent out a team of four rescuers to find them.
“Rescuers from TOPR took three injured climbers to the nearest station. Everyone was in generally good shape though slightly frozen,” said the rescue stations dispatcher Tomasz Witkowski.
Today, the avalanche danger level was set at three, meaning that even a light load can trigger an avalanche or spontaneous avalanches are highly possible. As well, TOPR reports that visibility is low today due to snowfall. (mmj)
