A forty four year-old miner has died in the “Wieczorek” mine in Katowice.
The man was buried after a cave-in some 630 metres under ground.
The rocks collapsed in the place where a new excavation was being prepared. In the area of the accident there were also six other miners, who fortunately did not suffer any injuries.
A rescue action was launched immediately after the cave-in, but when the miner was dug out a doctor declare him dead on the spot.
The man was working as a miner for 24 years. He had a wife and two children.
This is the second fatality in a Polish colliery this year. (jm)
