Somali pirates demand ransom for Bow Asir

The Somali hijackers of the Norwegian ship Bow Asir with five Polish sailors onboard have demanded ransom, reveals brother of the ship’s captain.

 

Norwegian newspaper Haugesund reports that yesterday evening the captain of the ship made a quick phone-call to his brother and informed about the ransom. He added also that the ship still remains at open sea.

 

The ship’s owner, the Norwegian Salhus Shipping, refused to comment on the reports.

 

Bow Asir was hijacked some 300 miles off the coast of Somalia last week. Onboard tare five Poles, some Filipinos, a Russian, Lithuanian and a Norwegian captain.

 

The Polish authorities are in constant touch with the Norwegian crisis centre dealing with the hijack. (jm/pg)
