A team of ten Polish climbers have left Warsaw for the Himalayas. The aim of their expedition is to reach the summit of Nanda Devi East in India, a peak of 7343 meters.
The preparations lasted for four years while the timing is not a coincidence – it marks the 70th anniversary of the first Polish expedition into the Himalayas.
The driving force behind the exploit is Janek Lenczowski, a grandson of Jakub Bujak, one of the members of the 1939 expedition. He says he would like to repeat the achievement of his grandfather.
The expedition, organized under the honorary patronage of the Ministry of Sports and Tourism, is to conclude on June 7. (di)
