26.04.2009

The first

group of 100 soldiers of the 4th Polish shift in Afghanistan has returned from their six month mission.

They came back home on board a Boeing 737 of the US Air Force, which landed at Goleniow airport near Szczecin, in the coastal north-west. Lieutenant Marcel Podhorodecki of the 12th Mechanized Division was one of the happy arrivals: “The exchange of the Polish forces will last till mid May. The aircraft has been chartered from the Americans. There will be groups of one or two hundred returning, so it will take around 10 flights to complete the process.”

The 4th shift of the Polish military contingent in Afghanistan numbered 16 hundred troops. Poland’s participation in the NATO mission there will now be increased up to 2 thousand soldiers.
