There are no cases of infection with the AH1N1, the so called swine flu in Poland, said health minister Ewa Kopacz. A special meeting of the Pandemic Committee wound up in Warsaw.
‘There is no pandemics,ther is no epidemic nor is there nay case of infection registered in Poland, up till now’ said Minister Kopacz.
Minister Kopacz said that the virus transferred from human to human is less dangerous than that transferred from swine. Ewa Kopacz added there is no reason to panic and appealed not to search for vaccines against the human flu.
Poland’s chief veterinarian doctor Janusz Zabek assured that the virus is spread through direct infection and not through eating pork. Deputy head of the Interior Ministry Adam Rapacki said that all services are on alert in Poland.
The National Sanitary Inspector Andrzej Wojtyla said that all Polish epidemiological services should pay attention to travelers returning from regions threatened with the virus. Any symptoms of flu should be immediately consulted with doctors, underlined Andrzej Wojtyla. Speaking for Polish Radio Doctor Pawel Grzesiowski from the National Insititute of Infection Prophylactics underlined that special attention should be given to everyday hygine and also avoiding contact with people with symptoms of common cold.
‘It is the most serious situation of a flu virus threatening people in the last 20-25 years. It has been confirmed that the virus is transferred through direct infection. Therefore, the virus can potentially endanger everyone.’ said Pawel Grzesiowski
The Foreign Ministry in Warsaw has issued a warning to all Poles travelling to or returning from Mexico, the United States and Canada to exercise caution with regard to the epidemic of swine flu registered there. The statement advises postponing trips to those countries, if possible, in order to minimize the risk of infection.
