The beatification process of the late Pope John Paul II is entering its final stage. The Catholic Church is very close now to pronouncing the late Polish Pope a blessed.
On May, a committee of theologians convenes in the Vatican to issue an opinion statement on the so-called Positio, which is the body of documentation gathered and organized by the Postulator of the beatification process.
If opinions vary or there appear doubts, a discussion will be necessary to come up with the final statement of the theologian's convention. The document will then be passed to the Cardinals, who are to read it and state their opinions within weeks. Based on these opinions, Pope Benedict XVI may issue a decree allowing the beatification of the late Polish Pope.
