Poland receives Tracker system from the US

07.05.2009

The US ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe has handed over to Polish customs officers the elements of the tracking system Tracker. The equipment is to help better monitor transports of various licensed materials, i.e. substances and devices which could be used for the production of weapons of mass destruction.

According to ambassador Ashe, the Tracker system will help fight with global terrorism more effectively. "Unfortunately the issue of weapons of terror and mass destruction continue and we know that terrorist groups continue to pursue technologies and materials needed for the production of those weapons. National boundary lines are the first line of defence and they prevent dangerous persons from getting their hands on the materials and technologies that can deliver such devastating weapons", he said.

The equipment in question is a specialized server, 130 working stations with software, 17 coding devices, 125 scanning devices as well as 125 digital cameras.  They will be used in 129 field units of the Polish Customs Services. (di)
