Mysterious disappearance of signal officer

07.05.2009

Secret service officers and police are searching for the missing signal officer, Stefan Zielonka, 52, who left his Warsaw flat in the middle of April and since disappeared.

Intelligence agencies have said that they are not excluding any option as to what has happened to him - suicide, accidental death, but also betrayal.

Zielonka’s knowledge is unique and if any foreign intelligence service could get an access to it, it be the cause of the biggest scandals of recent years, reports Dziennik. He knows code names of Polish officers working abroad and has access to secret sources of information and contacts.

Defence Minister, Bogdan Klich, did not want to say anything about that case. “Please understand me, no comments on that issue,” he said briefly.

Dziennik’s sources claim that Zielonka has some family problems. Recently he also had an argument at work over wage cuts.

The worst possible scenario would be so called exfiltration, meaning that the warrant officer could have been forced abroad by a foreign secret service. (jg)
