Krakow police have detained a fifth year university student who, for several years, has been black mailing local celebrities with gossip and compromising photographs.
The southern city of Krakow, home of celebrities like violinist Nigel Kennedy, politicians Jan and Nelly Rokita, actress Anna Dymna and filmmaker Andrzej Wajda, has seen a rash of blackmailings. Katarzyna Cislo, of the Lesser Poland Police, maintains that, not only celebrities have been targeted but also city officials, businessmen and priests.
According to police, the student has been making money in such a manner for seven years and has demanded between 100-5,000 zloty to remain silent on various scandalous issues.
“The man assumed that everyone has something to hide. He collected gossip about famous people in the region and blackmailed. In reality, he had no compromising material,” explained Cislo.
The student was taken into custody when he was meeting a target to collect cash. He faces up to three years in prison. (mmj)
