Clarification of retirement age?

12.08.2009

Labour Minister Jolanta Fedak has said she supports the idea of extending the retirement age.

Speaking to Polish Radio early this morning, Minister Fedak  explained that Poles have to work longer in line with the current world trends and the situation on the Polish labour market.

“We all have to work longer because the demographic situation demands this. The labour market is seeing a decrease in the incoming work force and the birth rate is on the decline, while the group of people in the retirement age is increasing,” stated Fedak.

The Minister added that the regulations should be made clear early enough. Those in their fourties, said the labour minister, should now be informed that they will have to work longer.

The present regulations set retirement age for women in Poland at 60 and 65. (adb/mmj)
