Drive sober campaign kicks into gear

17.08.2009

A nationwide campaign, "I am driving, I am sober", has been launched for the eleventh time in Poland in attempt to reduce the nation’s high road accident death rate.

The campaign is being held under the slogan "There are more and more of us". It will appear in TV and radio spots as well as billboards around the country. As part of the campaign, stickers for cars alongside 40,000 key chains are to be distributed as well.

The driving force behind the initiative promoting sobriety among drivers in Poland is Father Piotr Brząkalik from the Archdiocese in Katowice, southern Poland.

Poland has one of the strictest laws against drunken driving in Europe but also one of the highest rates of accidents involving drunken driving. According to statistics, several hundred drunken drivers are detained by police every day. (di/pg)
