Rydzyk to defend doctoral thesis publicly

28.09.2009

Father Tadeusz Rydzyk, controversial director of the ultra-conservative Radio Maryja, will publicly defend his doctoral thesis at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University on 8 October.

Rydzyk has had to take the doctorate course, otherwise he would be banned from teaching at his own university.

Today, Rydzyk is taking doctoral exams at the faculty of theology at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University. If he passes the exam and his doctoral thesis will get positive reviews, he will be admitted to defend his PhD.

Rydzyk’s advisor is Prof. Pawel Goralczyk, expert on moral theology and a member of the Committee of Theological Studies at the Polish Academy of Science.

If Rydzyk defends his doctoral thesis, he will be allowed to hold the post of a rector at the University of Social & Medial Culture in the northern city of Torun. The university was established by Rydzyk himself and it was headed by him until 2006 when the state regulations on higher education changed, allowing only people with doctoral degree to be university rectors.
