Deputy Prime Minister Waldemar Pawlak was one of the winners of the Big Lotto on Tuesday.
Eight lucky people won Poland's record-breaking Big Lotto jackpot of 40 million zloty (9.5 million euro) – each earning about 4.7 million zloty (just over one million euro).
One in 14 million people had a chance to hit the lucky numbers – 6, 14, 28, 44, 45 and 48. So far, none of the winners have come forward, but records show that there are eight winning tickets in Poland.
Deputy Prime Minister Waldemar Pawlak was among over 685,000 people to win sixteen zloty on a ticket given to him by a journalist.
“I got a winning ticket!” the politician announced Wednesday morning on his blog, adding that he had a ticket that contained three of the winning numbers: 14, 15, 28, 37, 48, and 49. Pawlak added that, according to his promise, he will donate the cash prize to his local fire department.
Six hundred forty-four people won 5,671.60 zloty (1,344 euro), 35,609 gamblers won 254.90 zloty (58.28 euro) and as many as 685,664 people won 16 zloty (3.79 euro).
This jackpot is the highest Poland has ever seen, with 38 million zloty being the second-highest from July 2008. (mmj)
