The new Sports Minister will be Grzegorz Dolniak, the current head of the Civic Platform parliamentary club, according to unofficial information from the TVN24 news service.
Dolniak’s responsibilities in the lower house of parliament will be taken up by fellow party member Jaroslaw Gowin.
Grzegorz Dolniak is 49-years-old, educated in economics and is currently serving his third term in parliament. Previous to his political career – which began in 2001 – Dolniak was a businessman and owned his own firm that dealt with automotive services and property protection.
Dolniak took up the post of head of the Civic Platform parliamentary club on 2 October 2009, replacing the deposed Zbigniew Chlebowski, who resigned due to accusations made by the Anti-Corruption Bureau that he was involved in lobbying on behalf of the gambling industry. Drzewiecki resigned from his post as Sports Minister on Monday morning based on the same charges.
The news that Dolniak will take up Drzewiecki’s former post as Sports Minister has yet to be confirmed by Prime Minister Donald Tusk. (mmj)
