As a result of a gambling scandal, support for the ruling Civic Platform has fallen but Prime Minister Donald Tusk is still ahead of his rivals in next year’s presidential race, show opinion polls.
Since the outbreak of a gambling scandal allegedly involving members of Civic Platform, the party has lost ground to rival Law and Justice by four percentage points, shows a survey conducted by the PBS DGA.
According to the poll, 48 percent of Poles currently support Civic Platform, 28 per cent the Law and Justice party, 10 percent for Democratic Left Alliance, and 6 percent support the Polish Peasant’s Party.
A separate survey conducted by the Gfk Polonia shows similar results: 50 per cent support for Civic Platform, 27 percent for the Law and Justice party, 8 percent for the Democratic Left Alliance and 6 percent for the Polish Peasant’s Party.
As a result of the so-called Black Jack-gate scandal, Poles have lost trust in Civic Platform politicians in spite of their views and involvement in the scandal. According to the poll by Gfk Polonia, voters have lost trust in the coalition government (41 percent) the senior coalition partner Civic Platform (38 percent) and PM Tusk personally (37 percent).
In spite of the loss of trust, Prime Minister, Donald Tusk is still ahead in the presidential race with 37 per cent of Poles supporting him, shows a survey by PBS DGA.
The former PM and a left-wing politician Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz comes second with 17 percent support and incumbent president, Lech Kaczynski comes in third with 15 percent support. (mg)
