On Sunday night, a large gang of young men attacked a Chechen refugee camp near Radom, central Poland, with rocks.
“The first patrols were on site just a few minutes after the attack was called in,” says Rafal Jezak from the Metropolitan Police Office of Radom. “It turns out that the group of several dozen men broke four windows in a building in the camp.”
The police caught nine people, among them three minors, all of whom were released after taking statements. Jezak claims that the incident could be motivated by revenge for the recent beating of three Poles by Chechens in the area.
The Radom camp is an open facility containing migrants awaiting refugee status so that they can freely move about the city. Those living in the camp must be approved by the Director-General of the Office for Foreigners. (mmj)
