Muchnik is accused of nine crimes of issuing death sentences, while working as a judge, against Polish underground and anti-communist activists from 1951 to 1953.
According to the Najwyższy Czas weekly, Michnik is also said to have participated, personally, in some of the death sentences. In October 1953, he is accused of taking part in the shooting squad of underground activist during WW II, Andrzej Czajkowski.
The Institute of National Remembrance - has, since 2007 - been considering asking for the extradition of Stefan Michnik, currently resident in Sweden.
The 87 year-old Stefan Michnik, half brother of Adam, left Poland in 1969 after the communist initiated anti-Semitic campaigns of the pervious year. After being refused a visa to the US, Michnik finally settled in Sweden, where he now lives as a retired librarian. (pg)
