Marcin K. - also known as Belmondziak -  has been detained by police in Otwock near Warsaw.

The 32 year-old Belmondziak is suspected of heading criminal organizations in Warsaw and surrounding province, responsible for numerous assaults, murders, kidnappings and drug trafficking.

Police issued a warrant of arrest for him a year ago and since then he has been disguising himself by wearing beard and a wig.

Marcin K. was detained at his house in Otwock. He ran into a police ambush while driving back home on Sunday. He had over 72 mobile phones, 70,000 zloty (16,600 euro) and false documents with him.

Police hope to detain more people in connection with the case. (mg)
