Shock tactics used in anti-road accident campaign

06.11.2009

The shocking “Use your imagination” campaign, aimed at reducing the number of fatalities on Polish roads has been launched on television and in cinemas.

The short film attempts to draw attention to the growing number of pedestrians who die in car accidents.

Invisible shows injured and even dead victims of road accidents trying to warn reckless drivers to be vigilant of pedestrians.

“Victims of accidents. You can’t see them. They try to address you. Use your imagination,” says the commercial.

“This is a clear, simple message loaded with emotion,” Radoslaw Stepien, deputy Infrastructure Minister told a national newspaper. He hopes that thanks to the campaign, pedestrians will be more careful and will not place an absolute trust in drivers.

The TV commercial, which is a joint venture of the police, the National Road Safety Council and the PZU insurance company, will be shown on Polish television and in cinemas.

Every year almost 2,000 pedestrians die on Polish roads and 14,000 are injured. (mg)
