Customs officers to hunt internet gamblers?

10.11.2009
The Finance Ministry wants to pass a bill to allow customs officers to monitor internet users who visit online casinos.

Customs officials would be allowed to gather personal data about internet gamblers and block web sites which offer gambling. The regulation, proposed by deputy Finance Minister Jacek Kapica, is to come as a part of a government’s draft bill on gambling. If the new regulation is implemented, all internet casinos will have to operate according to Polish law. So far, many internet casinos have been registered abroad to avoid national regulations.

The new regulation will oblige customs officials to monitor internet users and telecommunication companies to gather data about casinos and forward them to state authorities.

Today, the government is expected to pass a new gambling bill with the regulation on chasing internet gamblers. (mg/mmj)
