Running for independence

11.11.2009
The 21st edition of the annual Independence Run has taken place in Poland’s capital today with the participation of over seven thousand runners.

According to the organizers, the idea behind the 10k run is to commemorate the regaining of independence in 1918 but also to manifest Poles’ attachment to patriotic values.

The route of Run held under the slogan “Independence is worth running for” is attested while the participants are requested to wear red and white t-shirts in order to create several kilometres long national flag of Poland.

Apart from regular runners, several hundreds of roller skaters, runners in wheelchairs and practitioners of Nordic walking ran along the streets of Warsaw together with Robert Korzeniowski, four-time Olympic champion in race walking and the capital’s mayor Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz. (di)
