Bielecki popular choice for PM

26.11.2009
Forty percent of voters say that Jan Bielecki would a good choice for prime minister, according to a new poll.

The former prime minister, who announced his resignation yesterday as president of Pekao SA, is thought to be a possible replacement for Donald Tusk when he runs for president in next year’s elections.

Bielecki  - one of the founders of the Civic Platform party - is less popular for the post of president, however, with 31 percent giving their support, says the opinion poll by GfK Polonia.

“If he was in the frame then I would support him,” former president Lech Walesa told TVP Info yesterday.

Pekao SA bank announced yesterday that Bielecki’s resignation would take effect from January 11. (pg)
