Foreign Minister's wife gets protection after explosion

Anne Appelbaum, the wife of Poland’s Foreign Minister, Radoslaw Sikorski, has been granted the protection of the Government Protection Office (BOR) after her car exploded Saturday night in the Warsaw suburb of Jozefow.
The Office spokesman, Major Dariusz Aleksandrowicz, has said that investigation was launched into the case, and, until a clear cause of the explosion is determined, Anne Applebaum will be under government protection.
The explosion took place Saturday evening, in a Warsaw suburb when Anne Applebaum was driving her car. Applebaum stopped alarmed by sounds from the engine. When she got out, the car exploded. She did not suffer any injuries.
Anne Applebaum is a well-known American writer and journalist. Her book Gulag, earned her the Pulitzer Prize in 2003. (adb/mmj)
