Legia beer – the real taste of football

11.12.2009

Legia Warsaw FC fans will soon be able to buy beer in their favourite club’s colours: white-green-red.

Fuhrmann Brewery has started the production of Legion Pils, beer dedicated to Legia Warsaw FC fans. The fans invented a unique recipe for the beer and design a bottle and a label.

This year the sale of beer in Poland has dropped by eight percent. The report by Kompania Piwowarska, the biggest Polish brewery, shows that in the times of recession almost 17 percent of Poles economise on beer.

In the times of recession, which seriously affected beer industry, Fuhrmann Brewery managed to find a niche on the market and decided to produce beer dedicated to football fans. The company has already released beer for Lechia Gdansk FC, Arka Gdynia FC and LKS from the central city of Lodz.

“More and more football clubs want us to produce beer in their colours. We’re currently holding talks with four FCs, including first league teams,” says Jaromir Kaczanowski from Fuhrmann Brewery.

The company also plans to produce energy drinks, chocolate bars and chewing gums dedicated to the Warsaw-based football club.

“There are almost two million Legia fans, so it seems like a good idea to create a product, designed for this particular group of consumers,” says Adam Bogacz from AKB Consulting.

Legion Pils beer will be available in shops next week and will cost only 3 zloty (70 euro cents).

Warsaw-based FC Legia is one of the most successful Polish first league football clubs, with history of winning a total of 8 league championships and a record 13 Polish Cups. (mg)
