Warsaw city authorities are distributing 2,000 small spruce trees today in an initiative to green up the area.
Half-meter high trees will be handed out for free at the Bankowy Square and the Sinfonia Varsovia in the Praga district.
The authorities encourage the new owners to keep the plants in a cool, sunny place and water it regularly. Special manuals will be given out by foresters to help trees survive the holidays, so that they may be planted in spring.
The trees may be returned on 9 January, if one fails to find a spot to plant them after Christmas. The authorities have also prepared a joint initiative in spring where the owners will be able to plant their spruces under the supervision of seasoned foresters. (ab)
