Polish users of social networking portals are not being careful about keeping their data private, the Dziennik Gazeta Prawna daily reports.
The newspaper ran an experiment in which it created a fictional account and sent out 100 friend ‘requests’ in both Facebook and its Polish counterpart, Nasza Klasa.
Almost one third of people who received the requests accepted them, thus revealing their dates of birth, e-mail addresses, mobile and home telephone numbers, as well as all sorts of other information that is placed on such social networking sites.
Experts say the experiment proves that in general Poles know nothing of the real dangers lying behind internet use, making themselves vulnerable to cyber-crime and identity theft, both growing problems of the digital domain. (jb)
