Gilowska to lead Kaczynski campaign?

30.12.2009

Former finance minister Zyta Gilowska is likely to lead Lech Kaczynski’s campaign in the presidential elections next year.

As President Kaczynski is currently behind in the opinion polls his campaign needs to start early and needs a good chief of staff - someone who could attract middle-of-the-road, floating voters.

The Polska (the Times) newspaper claims that Zyta Gilowska is just the woman for the job. The former deputy prime minister in the previous Law and Justice government is to ensure the support of moderate voters, especially those disappointed by the current Civic Platform government.

Vice President of Law and Justice Adam Lipinski confirmed to the newspaper that Gilowska’s name has appeared on the political radar but stresses that no decision has been taken yet.

Head of the National Security Bureau Wladyslaw Stasiak was thought to be favourite to lead Kaczynski‘s campaign but he is now being pencilled in for Law and Justice candidate for president of Warsaw.

The latest poll by the Homo Homini Institute puts prime Minister Donald Tusk 12 points ahead of President Kaczynski, with 32 and 20 percent support respectively. (pg)
