As many as 61 percent of Poles believe that Prime Minister Donald Tusk will make it to the second round of this year’s presidential elections; about 35 percent point to President Lech Kaczynski.
Such are the results of a survey carried out by pollster TNS OBOP commissioned by national broadcaster TVP.
Former prime minister Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz has been indicated by 29 percent of the respondents as one to reach the second round, while former finance and foreign minister Andrzej Olechowski was opted for by 21 percent. Seventeen percent have stated the National Left Alliance candidate, former defence minister Jerzy Szmajdzinski stood a chance of passing through to the next stage, whereas only four percent believed so in the case of another presidential hopeful Tomasz Nalecz, a candidate of both the Social Democracy of Poland and the social-liberal Democratic Party, demokraci.pl.
Three percent believed no mentioned politician would pass through to the second round, while 14 percent were undecided. The survey was carried out on a sample of 1000 adult Polish citizens late December. (ab)
