Up to 45 percent of Poles think that global warming and climate change have been blown out of all proportion by lobbyists, which are making money by provoking public fear or a sense of guilt.
A survey by CBOS, however, finds that over 60 percent of Poles are concerned over the state of the global natural environment, says a new survey.
A half are worried about pollution in Poland. The majority believe that the global climate is changing, while over 30 percent doubt it, according to a survey just released by the CBOS public opinion research centre. Climate change is attributed mainly to the impact of man’s activity.
The view that climate change is a great danger is expressed mainly by young people, school and university students, people with university degrees and urban dwellers. Ironically farmers, whose work is strongly determined by the condition of the environment and the climate, are not bothered about global warming.
Almost 60 percent of Poles believe steps should be taken to arrest the adverse climatic processes and believe that Poland should sustain their cost to some degree. About 20 percent say such measures are imperative, even if they prove costly. Fifteen percent see no reason for any action. (kk)
