Snow and ice paralyse traffic in the country

09.01.2010

The central Meteorological Office warns that frozen rain and snow will continue to fall throughout Poland. Driving conditions are extremely difficult in certain parts of the country.

In large cities like Warsaw, traffic is halted due to falling snow, snowdrifts and ice on smaller roads. Slippery roads prevail in the south of the country, where certain routes are blocked by the falling snow or broken electricity lines.

Some 14 thousand inhabitants of localities near Czestochowa in the south are cut off from power. The falling snow and frozen rain are accompanied by gusty winds reaching up to 65 kilometers per hour. (ab)
