Polska Plus - new right wing party elects its chairman

10.01.2010

Former transport minister Jerzy Polaczek has been elected as chairman of the new Polish political movement Polska Plus.

The founding committee of the party met on Saturday presenting the political manifesto of the movement and the outline of the programme of the grouping which was founded on January 9th.

The founding committee, decided that Poland needs a third phase of reforms, since neither the Law and Justice rule nor the present government of Civic Platform managed to profit from the transformations which began in this country 20 years ago. The committee groups right wing politicians, mainly former deputies of the Law and Justice.

At the Saturday congress Jerzy Polaczek underlined that the works of Polska Plus will be founded ona new quality of public service. He criticised both Law and Justice and Civic Platform for the abuse of the budget. Polaczek pointed that the period between 2010-2020 is a chance for Poland to assure modernisation and transformation.

According to Polska Plus the coming ten years may be a ‘golden Polish decade’ for the implementation of the third phase of reforms.

Polska Plus, among others, proposes the introduction of additional health care securities, lowering the personal income tax to 16% and liquidating income tax from retirement pensions. The party wants a radical change in the election law, limiting the number of mps and senators, as well as a change of the Constitution. Polska Plus also sees more power for the head of state, who would serve a six year term. (ab)
