After a week without electric power, local authorities in the borough of Myszkow in Silesia are debating whether to declare this a disaster area.
Some 13 thousand homesteads in the northern part of Silesia are without electricity and in spite of efforts to restore power, because of new failures the number has been growing.
Around 230 power units are out of order. Four main high-voltage cables and more than 30 medium and low-voltage cables are damaged. The damage is mainly caused by ice or by heavy snow and breaking tree branches falling onto electric power lines.
It’s calculated that about 50 thousand people in Silesia remain without electricity, heating and water. (ek)
