Internal Affairs Ministry is creating a central data base in Poland on the pretext of gathering record for new ID cards.
The project has been criticized by the Ombudsman Janusz Kochanowski and the Inspector General for Personal Data Protection Michal Serzycki.
In January 2011 the government is planning to introduce new ID cards with microchips, which will store Poles’ personal record. In order to implement the Pl.ID project a central data base is being created by the Internal Affairs Ministry.
The central data base will combine records from several other bases, including: PESEL (personal identification number), ID and marital status registers as well as social insurance register, tax payers register, passport register, vehicle and driver register, business activity register, court register and criminal record. It is also possible that health register as well as land and property register will be integrated within the system. (mg)
