Justice Ministry sacks two over top secret files mislaid

27.01.2010

Two state officials have been sacked it was discovered that confidential files from two secret offices had disappeared…

In 2008, the Justice Ministry delegated Ryszard Radolinski and Grazyna Fijalkiewicz to manage a group of officers whose task was to carry out an inspection at eleven secret offices, where confidential files with state secrets are being stored. The officials managed to inspect only three offices – in Warsaw, Poznan and Bialystok, where they found a series of irregularities. After reporting them to the Justice Ministry Radolinski and Fijalkiewicz were sacked and the inspection stopped. In spite of irregularities, the National Public Prosecutor’s Office did not open an investigation into the case.

During the 2008 inspection, officers discovered that, because of mess, confidential files on the Rywin-gate, General Marek Papala’s murder and the Pruszkow mafia might have leaked from secret offices in Warsaw and Bialystok, subject to the organized crime department.

In the Warsaw Secret Office inspectors found 400 pages of files on the Pruszkow mafia and 1000 pages of documents on General Marek Papala’s murder, which were not on the record or were supposed to be stored in a different office. Similar irregularities were detected in the Bialystok Secret Office in the east of Poland. Documents on the Rywin-gate and the gambling scandal disappeared, while other files, which were not on the record, were discovered.

Unregistered files from both offices could have leaked because no one was aware of their existence. The acting Justice Minister Krzysztof Kwiatkowski has called for a new inspection in

secret offices, which is supposed to be carried out by 10 March. (mg)
