Bronislaw Komorowski
Poland’s Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) is bracing up for an attack on Parliamentary Speaker Bronislaw Komorowski, slated for the ruling Civic Platform’s presidential candidate.
According to Dziennik Gazeta Prawna, deputies of the Left intend to prove that Komorowski has been unable to manage the Sejm, the lower house, and that he will be a failure as president.
Komorowski is a frontrunner in the primaries for the Civic Platform (PO) party. Grzegorz Schetyna, head of the party’s parliamentary caucus has suggested that leading PO politicians want Komorowski to run for president. His main rival in the party is foreign minister Radoslaw Sikorski.
The Left is to launch its attack this week. Its representatives will blame the speaker for blocking 37 draft bills sponsored by the Left, which remain shelved in the so-called parliamentary freezer. SLD claims that Komorowski disregards the voice of the opposition minority and will do so as president. The party is to present its woes at a press conference this week. (kk/mmj)
