River levels in check
20.02.2010
The Government Security Center reports there is no serious threat of flooding in Poland at present.
Despite the quickly melting snow throughout the country, river water levels have not raised abruptly.
Spokesperson Bozena Wysocka said danger levels have been exceeded in only two locations, so far, and alert levels have been reported in nine. She maintained that the situation is carefully monitored.
“All relevant services are on stand by. If need arises, assistance from the military has been guaranteed. There are also icebreakers ready for action. Presently, some are working on the lower Odra River in the north-west moving up stream,” stated Wysocka.
Two units of Polish icebreaking teams, currently on the Odra border river, are being assisted by two German units. (ss/mmj)
