Senator blackmailers charged

15.03.2010

The Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw has issued indictment against three people suspected of blackmailing senator Krzystof Piesiewicz.

The suspects are accused of blackmailing half a million zloty out of the Civic Platform senator and a screenwriter and then threatening to go public with disgraceful videos.

The videos show the 64 year-old Piesiewicz taking a white powder, which the blackmailers claim to be cocaine but he says was a medicine. They also show the politician lying unconscious on a couch in a flowery dress with a prostitute applying make up to his face.

The Prosecutor’s Office evidence includes witnesses’ testimonies, billings and experts’ opinions. The suspects, two women and a man, may face up to three years in prison.

The investigation on the possession and consumption of drugs by Piesiewicz has been suspended because the Senate did not remove the senator’s immunity from prosecution. If taken to court, Piesiewicz could face up to eight years in prison.

The senator described the suspects as “indecent greedy people who had the cheek to commit a criminal act.” (mg)
