Lechoslaw Gapik, a leading psychologist and sexologist from Poznan, western Poland, has been suspended from medical and other academic duties after accusations of sexual molestation.
The move comes after a joint committee meeting of the Polish Sexology Association and Polish Society for Sexual Medicine, the former of which Gapik was a member until today’s suspension.
Gapik has been accused of sexual molestation by several female patients of his, who testified against him in a recently aired TV report on TVN, a commercial station operating in Poland.
Head of both of the sexology societies, Prof. Zbigniew Lew-Starowicz, announced that Lechoslaw Gapik did not act in accordance of his profession and broke the standards set for sexual therapy.
Before the committee hearing, Dr. Stanislaw Dulko, a board member of the Polish Sexology Association, said that the situation is “difficult and hurtful,” and offered the association’s assistance to patients who had lost trust in Prof. Gapik’s methods of care. (jb)
