Krzysztof Teodor Toeplitz, renowned in Poland as a journalist, commentator, writer and film critic has died at the age of 77 years old.
Born on 28 January 1933, Toeplitz obtained a degree in art history from Warsaw University. In the 1950s and 1960s he worked on the Polityka and and Przegląd magazines.
The host of satirical and entertainment TV shows in state television (TVP) Toeplitz also wrote theatrical plays and co-authored screenplays for many Polish films.
A member of the communist party PZPR, Toeplitz participated in the Round Table talks in 1989 negotiating an agreement on the country’s media. In 2004 he unsuccessfully ran for the European Parliament as a member of the Democratic Left Aliiance SLD. (di)
