Mazurkas Fest

07.04.2010

Warsaw is the venue of a unique event under the motto ‘All the World’s Mazurkas’.

It has brought together pianists performing Chopin’s mazurkas, jazz musicians, folk bands, and dancers from countries where the mazurka is played and danced, from France, Sweden, Portugal and Estonia to the Cape Verde Islands. Featured artists  include the internationally-acclaimed pianist Janusz Olejniczak and jazz violinist Michał Urbaniak.

The week-long event ends with Saturday’s all-night dance party in Krakowskie Przedmieście. The project is the brainchild of Janusz Prusinowski and the Stowarzyszenie Dom Tańca (House of Dance Association), whose activity focuses on reviving ancient folk music traditions and introducing folk rhythms into present-day music.
