Polish films in Moscow

25.04.2010

A Festival of Polish Films ‘Vistula’ is held in Moscow. It opened with the screening of Malgorzata Szumowska’s 33 Scenes from Life.

One of the most acclaimed recent Polish features, it is a story of thirty three year-old Julia, a successful photographer, married to a famous composer.  When her parents die, the pieces of her happy life begin to fall apart all around her. 33 Scenes from Life won a special jury award at the Locarno Film Festival in 2008.

The festival gives a cross section of the latest achievements of Polish cinema, including Wojciech Smarzowski’s The Dark House and Janusz Morgenstern’s A Lesser Evil. Andrzej Wajda’s Sweet Rush and Katyn will have special showings during the event.

The Festival is dedicated to the memory of Poland’s Deputy Foreign Minister Andrzej Kremer, one of the victims of the crash of the presidential plane, who granted great support to the organizers. The side-line events include a discussion panel ‘People’s Poland and the Soviet Union in the Polish and Russian perspective after twenty years’.
The Festival ends on 29 April. (mk)
