To celebrate 219 years of the Polish Constitution, Parliament has opened its doors for public visitors.
Among the attractions are tours of the Plenary Hall and Column Hall, where the parliamentary investigative committees are held. Puzzles and educational materials will be handed out to younger visitors.
On Friday, parliamentary speaker and acting head of state Bronislaw Komorowski announced that mourning decorations will remain in the Plenary Hall until 3 May, “to remind us of the drama, but to show also that parliament is an integral part of society and the nation, which has felt a painful loss.”
12 Members of Parliament and 2 senators were killed in the Smolensk tragedy on 10 April, when 96 people died in an air crash, including Poland’s president Lech Kaczynski, his wife, and many other leading figures of Poland’s political and military elite. (jb)
