Cold kills storks from world famous nest

19.05.2010

Heavy rain and colder-than-usual temperatures have caused the death of five white stork nestlings in Przygodzice.

The nest in this western Polish locality is world famous due to the microscopic internet camera installed there, allowing the observation of the everyday life of the birds.

According to scientists, the mother of the five birds lost the battle against the cold, being unable to warm the damp nest. Efforts of the fire brigade brought no results. The nestlings could not be resuscitated.

Last year over five million web surfers from all over the world observed the life of the storks in the Przygodzice nest. (ab)
