Light heavyweight WBF world champion, Dawid Kostecki, has been charged with forming and leading a criminal group and receiving money from prostitution and drug dealing.
Twenty-five people, including Kostecki’s mother Katarzyna and sister Estera, are also being prosecuted for being involved in criminal activities, such as theft, assault, drug dealing and prostitution.
The Prosecutor’s Office in the southern city of Rzeszow – the boxer’s home town - accused Kostecki of deriving profits from three brothels run by his mother and sister between 2003 and 2007, and trading amphetamine.
The 28 year-old Kostecki may face up to 15 years in prison.
Kostecki aka ‘Gypsy’ (because of his Romany origin) was detained in February 2007 by the Central Investigation Bureau and later released on 60,000-zloty (14,600 euro) bail. (mg)
