A district court in Koszalin has accepted that presidential candidate Andrzej Lepper never collaborated with the communist secret services.
The controversial candidate for the Self Defence party has now passed the ‘vetting’ procedure, which all those who want to stand for public office must go through in Poland.
Andrzej Lepper emerged from the court and took the opportunity to do some campaigning - handing out party banners, red and white scarves and leaflets.
Earlier this month, Lepper won an appeal to be able to take part in the elections, after a lower court banned him from standing following a conviction for libel against top politicians.
He told reporters that he sticks to his view that Prime Minister Donald Tusk should call a state of emergency in the country as campaigning for election in the June 20 presidential elections is difficult when many areas of Poland are struggling to combat the effects of the floods.
A state of emergency would postpone the election date by some weeks. (pg)
