photo - east newsA new poll shows that 51 percent of Poles think the government should call a state of emergency to fight the floods, thereby delaying the presidential elections on June 20.
When the MillwardBrown SMG / KRC opinion poll asked whether a state of emergency be called and presidential elections delayed till the autumn, 28 percent of respondents answered "definitely yes" and 23 percent "probably yes".
Twenty six percent answered "probably not" and 18 percent answered "definitely not".
Opposition parties such as Law and Justice and candidates such as Andrzej Lepper have all called for a delay in the election date so maximum effort could be put into fighting the floods which have caused havoc in many areas of the country. Prime Minister Donald Tusk, however, has said calling a state of emergency would have little practical effect on the flood rerief effort.
The poll was taken via telephone on May 24 from a representative sample of 1.011. (pg)
